Toxins In Your Skin Care

I just want to put it out there for those of you who may not be aware: there are many, many toxins in most of our beauty products, cleaning aids, laundry detergents, deodorants, and last but not least, processed foods. One area in particular that I would like to lean more about is skin care- from what I have taken in so far, most of these items contain parabens which are small amounts of toxic chemicals found in almost every beauty product on the market today. They have been shown to effect changes in estrogen levels, linked to breast cancer, and harmful to those with chemical sensitivities. This doesn't really sound like something that I want to be putting on my body and face everyday- what about you?
I have tried several natural alternatives, and so far I have been rather disappointed. Do I have to sacrifice my health in order to look good? I do intend to look into this further because I feel that it's quite important for my health and my return to wellness. I have stopped using deodorant (don't need it actually), I clean my house and wash my clothes in natural detergents, and I eat organically as much as possible. I really feel that the next step on my path to total wellness is to get rid of the chemicals that I use in the name of beauty each day- there must be some great alternatives out there- if you know of any good brands please let me know!

  2. Have you heard of http://www.goodguide.com/ ?
It is a directory of foods, products, etc. that details and ranks how safe and healthy they are to use.
Seems like it is a helpful resource.

  3. Toxins in skin care products are like toxins in the body of a drug addiction - they can be gotten rid of by just stopping them.

  4. darling, come see me over on kitty! i do all the natural cosmetics testing for you! one of the first things any girl can do is to eliminate parabens (preservatives) and toxic chemicals like SLS, pthalates, formaldehyde and petrochems from makeup and skin care. as you must know from your myss quote above, there are natural ingredients out there that will not only harm your skin & endocrine system, but will actually help (have you heard her talk about nature's vibrations?) also, please see my links to the Environmental Working Group's cosmetic safety database. you can look up virtually anything you might have in the vanity to determine it's toxicity. keep on keepin' on! peace & love, kitty PS i am totally jealous of your california digs!

  5. I recently moved to Colorado, where the air is very dry, and at age 50, my skin was really starting to show it.

I have always had oily skin problems, but all that changes with age and climate made it even worse - thats when I read some customer reviews about the Made from Earth organic skincare line and I decided to try them.

Made from Earth products are a joy to use, and I noticed a significant difference in just a few days! I like the Green Tea Toxin Cleanser because i feel it removing the daily toxins from my face - and I also like the Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum - it even firmed up my neck quite a bit!

I will definitely continue to use the Made from Earth skin care products.

  6. I really enjoyed that article posted regarding harmful ingredients in personal care products. It was very informative and I believe you are absolutely correct about the negative impact that these chemicals can have on our bodies. I have discovered several amazing reports to validate your position, and I think you would find the information fascinating. I would love to discuss this further with you. Please email me at your earliest convenience at tdeann24@gmail.com. One report in particular is very serious in nature and was documented on CNN. I'll send you a link.

  7. I was in the same boat as you!!I suffered from hormonal acne and ovarian cysts for over 10 years. It wasn't until I decided to go "completely natural" that I finally cured my problems. Skin care products are just filled with toxins. I am so furious that people do not pay enough attention to it. We all want to look good but we should not have to sacrifice our health. I have finally found skincare products that are organic and completely toxin free and they work great. I love these products so much that I have decided to become a represantative. You can go online and order samples to try. I did that and that is how I discovered these wonderful products.

    specifically for skin care:
http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php - you can enter the skin care or personal products that you use to see what the toxin rating is. VERY useful

    reading material:
    http://www.amazon.com/Not-Just-Pretty-Face-Industry/dp/0865715742/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b

    and the product I recommend:
http://www.xango.com/products/glimpse-skin-care - a member of the Coalition for Safe Cosmetics; uses green chemistry and has a complete list of all ingredients on the website
